BGC Partners hosted its first ever global charity day on September 12 2005, raising an incredible £2.2 million for a variety of good causes around the world.
In London this significant achievement was supported through the encouragement and attendance of numerous celebrities, including Cherie Blair, Lucy Alexander, Rory Bremner, Lawrence Dallaglio, Mick Fitzgerald, Eddie Jordan, Gary Lineker, Tony McCoy, Barry
McGuigan and Zara Philips, whilst in New York several sports stars including former football legends Harry Carson from the New York Giants, Boomer Esiason from the New York Jets and baseball superstar Mariano Rivera of the New York Yankees were present.
Prior to the event itself, BGC pledged that 100%of revenues would be donated to a number of charities including CLIC Sargent, which supports children suffering from leukaemia or cancer, charities chosen by clients; and the Cantor Foundation. Also included in the pledge were donations to charities supported by Australian cricket legend Shane Warne and England Ashes hero Kevin Pietersen, who visited the London offices of BGC Partners on Wednesday September 8 to launch the event, one day before the final Ashes Test.
“The camaraderie shown by our staff, clients and honoured guests was tremendous, and I wish to thank everyone for a sterling effort in the aid of many worthy causes. We are delighted with the commitment and support of everyone involved and look forward to seeing the benefit that the funds raised will bring to CLIC Sargent and other selected charities”.
